 !Bienvenidos a español! I hope you will find useful all the following blocks of information. 

Below you will find:

 

GAMES created in various free apps that can help you revise and gain confidence with some of the topics covered in the lessons.

 

TAPAS, which are short 5-8 min videos that will be shown during the week at school to increase your opportunities to practise and reinforce your language skills.

YEAR 5 - SPANISH LEARNING JOURNEY

YEAR 5 - TERM 1 - We are busy learning the following:  

 

VOCABULARY:

  • Name some members of the family
  • The months of the year
  • The numbers (0-31)

 

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (Q&A):

  • How many people are in your family?
  • What is the name of (member of family)?
  • Do you you have siblings?
  • How old is (member of family)?
  • When is your birthday?

 

GRAMMAR & PHONICS:

  • The masculine, feminine, singular and plural definite articles (el-la-los-las)
  • How to build and use sentences to describe a family in detail
  • The personal adjective (my) in singular and plural (mi-mis)
  • Verbs: to be - to have - to be called - to be there 

 

INTERCULTURAL CONTENT:

  • The Day of the Dead: Mexican celebration to remember their dead family members on 1st and 2nd of November
  • Birthday traditions in Spain and other countries
  • Singing 'Happy Birthday' in Spanish
  • Spanish Christmas traditions

 

LANGUAGE LAERNING STRATEGIES:

  • Using your own information to memorise meaningful and realistic sentences (your actual birthday date, your siblings' names, etc)

YEAR 5 - TERM 2 - We are busy learning the following:  

 

VOCABULARY:

  • Name the four seasons
  • Name 11 different types of weather
  • Name a star, eight planets and a satellite
  • Name 20 pieces of clothing

 

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (Q&A):

  • What is the weather like?
  • Where is ...?
  • What colour is...?
  • How is...?
  • What are you wearing?

 

GRAMMAR & PHONICS:

  • The verbs used to talk about the weather: hacer, haber, llover, nevar, estar
  • The verb llevar (to wear)
  • Some usuful conjunctions and prepositions to help with extending sentences

 

INTERCULTURAL CONTENT:

  • We learn the name of some traditional pieces of clothing from variuos countries and cultures from the world.
  • We look at the weather in Spanish speaking countries.
  • We read a fable in Spanish during Book Week: The fable of the wind and the sun.

 

LANGUAGE LAERNING STRATEGIES:

  • Using repetitive patterns in sentences help us with building new ones. 
  • Cognates (words that sound and/or look similarly in the target language and our own language) can help with extending vocabulary, but we must be careful with the pronunciation.

If you have time during the holidays, it would be a nice mini-project to attempt this 'Wheel of Spanish Christmas'.

 

Colour in the pictures and create a wheel that will teach you about the various key dates in the Spanish Christmas calendar. I hope you enjoy the idea.
