Attendance

Attendance at St Mary’s CE Primary School Nursery

Nursery education cannot be underestimated as it is the strong foundations that prepare every child to become ready for school life.

Once a child starts their nursery learning journey, it is vital they attend regularly so they learn to socially interact with others outside their family,  they begin to develop independence and routines and develop new vocabulary acknowledging and accessing the world around them.

Regular attendance at school is associated with higher achievement. In other words, children who attend regularly tend to do better at school than those who do not.

If a child misses a day of Nursery every week they have missed 20% of their learning time that week. It means over the course of a year they miss 38 days which is 7 ½ weeks! This is a lot of learning time lost. Missed opportunities to learn lead to a drop in achievement and their attitude and approach to learning. It can also impact on their social skills and learning about friendships.  The more opportunity for a child to achieve and grow,  the more they are likely to excel in their education.

We understand that if your child is unwell they will not be able to attend school. If your child is absent as a result of illness, you should phone us on 01753 534791  and let us know the reason.
