Transitioning from Nursery to Reception

Everyone must apply for a Reception school place. There is no automatic entry to any school.

School admissions

On time applications for a school place for reception at primary school must be submitted by 15  January.

If you have a child who was born between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021, you must apply for a place in Reception for September 2025.

Applications must be made by a parent or carer who holds legal parental responsibility for a child. Only one application should be made per child.

Primary school places

Please note the following, when you complete an application for reception or infant to junior transfer:

  • you may list up to 3 school preferences
  • you should rank your preferences in the order that you would like the schools to be offered
  • if you are unsure which schools to apply for, research the available choices e.g. visit local schools, talk to fellow parents, review Ofsted reports or review school league tables

After you have applied an offer will be sent to you on National Offer Day: 16th April

You will then need to accept or decline.

  • You can log on to the portal to find out for yourself.
  • Or look out for your offer letter or email depending on what you chose in your application.

For more information, advice and support:

Information for Slough residents on the school admissions process can be found in our comprehensive guidebook "Slough parents' guide to admissions".

We recommend all parents read the relevant sections of the document before submitting an application for a school place.

To support you with this process, we will be running workshops in creating accounts on the Slough Citizen Portal and applying for a school place. You will have access to a laptop and will be guided throughout the process.

Please sign up for one of our practical workshops in the school office. Dates for the workshops are:

Friday 8th November @ 8.45am

Thursday 28th November @ 12.30pm
