Nursery
Welcome to Nursery!
In Nursery our staff are Miss Allan (class teacher), Miss McGuinness, Mrs Kaur and Miss Dutta (teaching assistants). Mrs Chatterjee will teach Nursery every Friday.
If you wish to contact us for any reason, you can reach Miss Allan by email at:
Nursery@stmarys.slough.sch.uk
If your child is absent for any reason, please log this on Studybugs.
Do not communicate with Miss Allan on Class Dojo as she will not respond. All communication with Miss Allan must be done via the class email address. Thank you.
Notice- Parking
When bringing your child to Nursery, do not park in front of the school car park gates. Access is needed at all times by staff, deliveries and visitors to the school.
If you do wish to drive to Nursery, you can find alternative free parking at Upton Court Park and then walk around to St Mary's. This would be an approximately 15 minute walk.
Thank you.

Brilliant work afternoon Nursery, you have increased your attendance by 10%! Good work everyone.
We are aiming for a minimum of 96% every week. It would be lovely to see our attendance percentage increase.
This half term our topic is Wonderful Winter. This week (WB 12.1.2026) will be doing the following learning:
English
Our new book to continue our learning about winter is the non-fiction book 'What can you see in winter?' This is so we can show children different types of text to support their learning.
On Monday the children will be looking at the new book and discussing features of a non-fiction text. We will look at information in the book to discuss what we see in winter. The children will then talk about what they have learnt.
On Tuesday we will recap our learning and look at the book again. We will then go for a winter walk around the school grounds (weather permitting) to see what signs of winter we can see in our own environment. Please ensure your child has appropriate layers and clothes for our walk.
On Wednesday we will talk about our winter walk and think about the signs of winter that we saw. In our books we will draw something that we saw on our walk and the children will say what their marks mean.
On Thursday we will continue with our work on writing our names. I hope that everyone was able to have a go at this as part of the home learning over the break.
Finally on Friday we will be learning a new song called 'I'm a little penguin'. They will sing this to a familiar tune and try to remember all the words.
Maths
In Maths this week we will be learning to explore our first patterns. Our song of the week is: πΆ The Pattern Song for Kids | Learn Colors, Shapes & Objects! π¨πΊπ
On Monday we will be looking at simple patterns that exist in the world around us. We will look at photos and go for a short walk to see patterns in the school grounds, talking about what we can see that repeats itself.
On Tuesday we will be attempting to recreate simple patterns. Miss Allan will create a simple pattern for the children to copy, seeing if the children can correctly identify the repeats and construct it themselves.
On Wednesday the children will attempt to copy and complete simple patterns using a range of objects. The children will look at the patterns and complete them using appropriate objects.
On Thursday we will create patterns using ourselves- for example 'boy, girl, boy, girl' or 'trousers, dress, trousers, dress'. The children will talk about what the pattern is and what is needed next to carry it on.
Finally on Friday the children will be recapping what a pattern is and how they repeat. The children are then going to listen to the story 'Cave Baby' by Julia Donaldson to see what other patterns and shapes they can observe in different settings. They will then attempt to make these patterns and shapes on the playground during learning play. You can watch the story with your child here: Cave Baby [Children's story | Read Aloud]
Religious Education
Every Thursday we complete an RE lesson to support the children's understanding of different faiths. This week we will be starting to learn about Lunar New Year and learning about the story 'The Great Race' to find out how the Chinese Lunar calendar got the names for the different years.
Phonics
In Phonics we will be carrying on with RWI. We will be recapping the images mountain, apple, snake, dinosaur and tower and we will be introducing new images. Our new images this week are:
insect
net
pirate
girl
orange
To support your child with learning these, please watch the following video (you will need to copy and paste the link into your browser). Knowing these images and how they watch the individual sounds is a crucial part of the children learning to read and write.
