This week (week beginning 18.5.2026) we are learning about number in our topic area 'Count to 10'.
On Monday we will be working on beginning to identify 6 and 7 then counting actions up to 7. The children will be making sure they count in order, without doing more actions than stated.
On Tuesday we will be starting to recognise numerals 8, 9 and 10. The children will use ten frames and counters to help them count objects in order to 10 with one to one correspondence. To support our counting we will revisit our counting song Counting 1-10 Song | Number Songs for Children | The Singing Walrus
On Wednesday we will be trying to make sure we are confident in recognising numerals 6 and 7. We will revisit them and link back to our learning from Monday. We will then play games which will support the children in recognising and counting 6 and 7.
On Thursday the children will be recognising 8 and 9. We will revisit our activity on Tuesday, then show the children numerals 8 and 9. On the playground, we will work on finding 8 and 9, moving between them as they are shown.
Finally, on Friday we will consolidate our knowledge on 6, 7, 8, and 9 and then revisit 10. To help the children count and recognise amounts up to 10, they will play a game- Learn to Count up to 10 with Underwater Counting Maths Game
