This week (week beginning 4.5.2026) we are learning about number in our topic area 'Stop at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5'.

Our song of the week is: BBC iPlayer - Numberblocks - Numbersongs: Zoom Zoom Zoom!

Monday is a bank holiday and school is closed.

On Tuesday we will count up to 5 objects from a larger group. This will encourage the children to count one object at a time. We will start with the story Let's read together 2 kids books Planes Planes Planes! and Trains Trains Trains! Read along. Once we have watched Trains, trains, trains the children will then take turns to count varying numbers.

On Wednesday we will be using counting songs such as Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer to help us count to 5 in different ways. The children will begin to use 10 frames and objects to support them in counting to 5.

On Thursday the children will practice counting to 5 in order, making sure that we do not miss any numbers and say them in order 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Finally on Friday we will be labelling objects with numerals. The children will watch the song One Elephant Went Out to Play | Baby Music | Songs & Nursery Rhymes for Kids and as each elephant is added we will be recognising which numeral matches the amount of elephants.

To further support and consolidate learning on counting, these episodes of Numberblocks can help:

BBC iPlayer - Numberblocks - Series 1: Off We Go

BBC iPlayer - Numberblocks - Series 1: How to Count

Please talk to your child about our learning to help consolidate what we are doing.
