This week (week beginning 29.6.2026) we are revisiting Subitising to 3.

On Monday we will revisit what subitising is. The children will talk about recognising amounts rather than counting. They will listen to sounds such as hands clapping and recognise how many claps there were. They will then show a dot plate to match the amount of sounds.

On Tuesday we will be recognising amounts using dot patterns. The children will look at a dot pattern and then say how many there were.

On Wednesday we will begin to work on subitising amounts that are not represented through dot patterns. The children will look at images of sea creatures and subitise the amounts they see.

On Thursday we will be using a Numberblocks game to support the children in recognising different amounts. You can play it at home with your child here: Numberblocks: See the Amount - EYFS - Maths game - BBC Bitesize

Finally, on Friday we will be looking at more underwater creatures to subitise. To support the children in recognising the amounts quickly, they will look at the image for a few seconds before the image is taken away. The children will then say how many they can see.

Please talk to your child about our learning to help consolidate what we are doing.
