Our rhyme of the week is: Doctor Foster. You can see it with your child here: Doctor Foster | English Nursery Rhyme for Kids
This week our story is Winnie in Winter. You can see the story with your child here: Winnie in Winter | Read aloud | Children's stories | Bedtime Stories | Winne the Witch | Kids Books
On Monday the children will be talking about our topic and what we've learnt about winter already. They will then listen to the story and they will talk about the story. We are encouraging the children to talk in full sentences to support their speech development.
On Tuesday we will talk about the animals in the story and think about why they woke up when the weather changed in the story. We will talk about hibernation and identify some animals that hibernate in winter.
On Wednesday we will complete our mark making. The children will recap animals that hibernate and we will be looking at images of these animals. Miss Allan will then model drawing an adult that hibernates and writing some letters that correspond to the image. The children will all then complete a drawing in their book and attempt to write a letter that matches their image. They will have to say what they have drawn and give meaning to their marks.
On Thursday the children will work on writing their names. Some children are now able to do this so for those that can write their names, we are working on writing on lines. For the rest of the children, we are ensuring they can recognise their names and are working on letter formation for all letters within their name.
On Friday the children will be practising the song Doctor Foster. They will be learning the words and attempting to sing it quickly, slowly, loudly and quietly.
To support your child's learning at home, please practice writing their name and read lots of stories together!
