Maths

This week (week beginning 13.4.2026) we are learning about subitising again and using this to link to the weeks topic of Make Games and Actions.

Our song of the week is: I Like To Draw | Colors And Shapes Song | Super Simple Songs

On Monday we will revisit subitising and work on quickly identifying amounts using dot plates. The children will match their own dot plates to ones shown by Miss Allan.

On Tuesday we will begin playing subitising games. The children will listen to the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and then we will be rolling dice showing 1-3. The children will then subitise the amount shown by the dice to 'feed' the caterpillar.

On Wednesday we will play more subitising games. We will use the dice again and when the dice has been rolled, the children will clap their hands the corresponding amount of times.

On Thursday we will be copying sets of sounds. Miss Allan will beat a drum 1, 2 or 3 times and the children will clap their hands the same amount of times. The children will do each amount multiple times in different orders to ensure they are confident at copying sets if sounds.

Finally on Friday the children will listen to sounds and represent them with fingers and resources. The children will hear sounds and start by holding up 1, 2 or 3 fingers. Once they are confident at doing this, they will then be given subitising plates. They will listen to the sounds and hold up the correct plates to match the amount.

Please talk to your child about our learning to help consolidate what we are doing.
