Eco School – Gardening

Our Litter Policy

Litter find your new home,
In our hungry bins.
Throw your litter away please;
Then everybody wins!
Everyone has a responsibility to…
Reduce litter on the floor.

Please throw your litter in the bin;
Our grounds don’t want it any more.
Lower our amounts of rubbish –
It is simple enough to do;
Card, glass, paper and plastic bottles…
You can all recycle too!

St Mary’s Eco Code

(To the tune of Frère Jacques)

Save the world, save the world,
And its trees, and its trees,
You’ll be an eco-helper, you’ll be an eco-helper,
Along with me, at St Mary’s.

Litter picking, litter picking,
Switch off lights, switch off lights,
REDUCE RE-USE RECYCLE,
REDUCE RE-USE RECYCLE,
Turn off taps, turn off taps.

Save the world, save the world,
And its trees, and its trees,
You’ll be an eco-helper, you’ll be an eco-helper,
Along with me, at St Mary’s.

Eco Schools

Our Eco Plan

Children’s Eco Plan 2016 -17 – WHAT WE WILL DO…
2 Waste – food waste (autumn) & WEEE (spring/ summer) continued from 2015-16 target
  ·          Waste less at lunchtime and help children use the right places for waste – compost, bins, recyclers

·          Check what we waste and sort this. Help with composting and use compost in our growing

·          Find out how much our bills are and reduce these

·          Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – Find out where our WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) goes and see what else we can do with this

Better recycling of batteries, photocopier ink cartridges and old electrical things
3 Water – SUDS in and beyond our school in Slough
  ·          Get involved with the SUDS and put plants around

·          Learn about and share information about water drainage and flooding

·          Help water-saving in school

Less water wasted

Less water going into our drains

People know more about SUDS

4 Litter – in and beyond our school
  ·          Y3 on daily litter-patrol

·          Weigh and photograph and sort litter and tell people about it

·          Discourage litter dropping by making posters about litter and animals safety

·

Less litter dropped

Less than 1 bag collected (3 kg) each term by the summer 2017 from the whole school

5 School Grounds
  ·          Take part in improving and restoring the school grounds – more trees and a new copse

·          Help build SUDS ponds and the Bog Garden that was moved

·          Take part in and improve gardening in classes

Even better outdoor areas in school with more areas to enjoy and use in our learning
7 Energy – reducing energy usage (including changes because of the new build)
  ·          Eco Council ‘Energy Enforcers’ will

– continue meter reading and give out office tips

– campaign on door closing, lights, air conditioning and PCs. Check classrooms and reward with stickers

·          Do posters and tell everyone how we are doing

Less energy wasted

Better rating on DEC certificate in 2017
