Digital Leaders

Digital Leaders are made up of some of our older children in school who have a passion for coding and computing.

During ‘autumn i’ term, children who are interested in the role are invited to write an application letter to explain their reasons for becoming a digital leader why they believe they deserve the role. Children are then chosen because they have shown good digital literacy skills when producing their letters and for being able to demonstrate a deep understanding of coding.

An important part of the role of being a digital leader, is to support year 1 during their computing sessions. They support the children to log on the computer using their class username and password as well as with navigating the keyboard and desktop icons. As a result of the digital leaders supporting year 1 they fed back that some children were struggling to recognise the uppercase letters on the keyboard. They produced some lowercase and uppercase alphabet strips for the children to use. This has had a huge impact; younger children are using the strips to support them logging on independently.

As a recent addition to ‘pupil voice’ at St Mary’s, each year the role is evolving to meet the ever-changing needs of the school.
