Rights Respecting Schools Award
Our Rights Respecting Schools Coordinator is Mr L. Plumley
St Mary's is a Gold: Rights Respecting School
Why do we develop this understanding? (Our intent)
The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) puts children’s rights at the heart of schools in the UK. It is run by the charity UNICEF and uses the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
UNICEF works with schools in the UK to create safe and inspiring places to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured and they are able to thrive.
How do we cover this? (Our implementation)
We are really pleased with what has been established through the RRSA at St Mary’s. However we also want to build on this to make sure that our Gold accreditation is maintained for many years to come.
Actions carried out across the school as part of our RRSA work:
- Right of the Month
- Class charters
- Involvement in annual campaigns and fundraisers run by UNICEF
- Monthly ambassador meetings
What is the difference that this makes? (Our impact)
Through the RRSA work and the promotion of children’s rights the children of St Mary’s are confident human beings with an active interest in issues that impact them and other children around the world.
