Dear Parents /Carers of pupils in Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6,
You are invited to our ‘Candlemas Celebration on Thursday 1st February, 6pm – 7pm.
Candlemas is a Christian festival of light, however, we do hope
that you will join us whatever your faith, as light is an important symbol for many.
You are invited to bring your child/children back to school at 6.00pm. There will be some car parking available in the staff car park, but please try to walk to school as parking is very limited.
Parents /carers will need to stay with their child/children and be responsible for the lighted candle! This event is for children in Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 but their brothers and sisters can join us, if child care is a problem.
You may also bring any candles from home , if you wish to, to be blessed during the evening.
Adults will be given a candle and children a battery powered tea light. As we light the candles we will be bringing light into the darkness, hope into our lives and hope into the life of the school too.
Our Parish Priest, Rev Andrew Allen, will say a few words and we hope to sing ‘This Little Light of mine,’ which we will be practicing at school so maybe your son or daughter can sing it for you at home! This is a special song for our school as we aim to work together to shine out our ‘lights’ to build s bright future for all.
There will be an opportunity to say what you LOVE about St Mary’s and write/help compose a prayer about LOVE as ‘Love’ will be our ‘Value of the Month’ during February. It is also a CORE VALUE- as I’m sure you know . There will also be a chance to share your HOPES for the future of our school if you would like to do so. This will be followed by drinks and biscuits.
So we know how many candles (and biscuits!) we need we will be sending home a reply slip. Please return these to your child’s class teacher by Tuesday 30th January – you only need to send one back per family.
We are look forward to seeing as many as possible of you for this special event.
